God of carnage, Chennai 2016

I have to reiterate that I am experiencing the flamboyance of theatre festival in Chennai for the first time in many many years. I went ahead and bought tickets without doing any initial research to find out if it would even be worth the time away from kids and long drives back and forth late in the evenings during the weekend.

Today, I watched the third of the six shows and felt it was all so totally worth it.

God of Carnage, the Indian  adaptation, was by far the most exhilarating experience. The four artists got under the skin of their characters so well.

The complexities of marriages, parenthood, weighing down our emotional burdens on our children, dysfunctional families, vanity, pretentiousness, egotism … All the usual  hassles that a regular household faces were well portrayed. The twist of the prim and proper couple breaking down first proving more dysfunctional than the other couple who seemed more normal in their explicit disagreements, was simply superb.

The narrative was very tight and their physical and subtle facial reaction were timed perfectly.

Totally enjoyed the show- thankyou!
